Approximately every two minutes, a World War II veteran dies; a rate of over 500 a day according to the Veterans Administration. Disappearing along with them are their stories of dedication, sacrifice, honor, bravery, tragedy, and triumph during the greatest conflict the world has ever known.
There were once 16 million World War II veterans. Today, there are only about 1 million. Take a look at the chart below to see how rapidly this has been happening.
The amount of sacrifice and service by our WW II veterans to preserve freedom will never be witnessed again. The nation owes them a huge debt. My book, Shot Down, pays tribute to a few of those men and to the courageous Belgian patriots who risked their lives to help them. They truly are The Greatest Generation.
Indeed. We must remember. It has already come to pass that people deny certain events of this era. We must hold steadfast.
Well said.
