Private Snafu was the title character of a series of American instructional cartoon shorts, ironic and humorous in tone, produced by Warner Bros., between 1943 and 1945 during World War II.
The series was designed to instruct armed forces personnel about security, proper sanitation habits, booby traps, and other military subjects.
It depicted Private Snafu doing everything wrong to illustrate the service personnel what the consequences were. It was directed by Chuck Jones and other prominent Hollywood animators, and the voice of Private Snafu was performed by Mel Blanc, who also played the voice of Bugs Bunny. Directed by Frank Capra and written by Theodor “Dr. Seuss” Geisel, Philip D. Eastman and Munro Leaf.
“Private Snafu” comes from the unofficial military acronym SNAFU (“Situation Normal: All Fucked Up”)
